Roundtable discussions on AI
In June, Jade held a fascinating AI Roundtable to discuss the limitless possibilities that lie ahead in the field of Artificial Intelligence. A distinguished group of professionals attended the event, including Jade's former CIO John Ascroft, who graced the occasion by returning to serve as the moderator for the AI Roundtable, and esteemed Professor Richard Green from the University of Canterbury, who offered an insightful perspective based on his knowledge of current AI research and market trends.
The AI Roundtable gathered a broad crowd of Jade staff as well as valued clients. The discussions covered everything from AI’s uses across various sectors, the potential for future innovation and some ethical considerations. It was a great afternoon, and we look forward to hosting the next one.
We're pleased to welcome Dean Cooper as our new Director of Technology!
As our Director of Technology, Dean will be responsible for researching, defining, and implementing our technology strategy across the business to enable us to achieve our strategic initiatives. Dean will also be leading the Security team, the Jade Engineering team and have Technology Strategist, Hugh McColl reporting to him.
If his name sounds familiar, it's because Dean has a long history with Jade having started at the LINC Development Centre on a graduate program in 1989. He was a member of the Jade Platform R&D team pre-launch and the first developer to work alongside Roger Jarquin, former CTO in the core Jade Platform Object Manager.
We're thrilled to have him, and we hope you'll join us in welcoming him back to the Jade community.
Winner of the Jade Software Prize at the University of Canterbury!!
Congratulations to Peter McGimpsey, this year's winner!
This year marks the 25th year the University of Canterbury has awarded the Jade Technologies Prize for Object-Oriented Systems Development.
We would like to congratulate this year's winner Peter McGimpsey whose high marks and mastery of Jade earned him the $2000 prize.
For the past four years, Jade's own Timothy Aitchison, Systems Software Engineer has been lecturing as part of the teaching team for Object-Oriented Systems Development (INFO213). He's worked alongside Senior Lecturer, Constantine Zakkaroff, teaching the Jade language, and its application in developing complete information systems.
This year's milestone means that Jade Software has given $50,000 to the University of Canterbury's students. We look forward to continuing to support the University's paper as well as welcoming new Jade users to our community!
Our latest release
We've recently released Jade 2022 SP1 which has a lot of great features:
Support for Azure SQL Database
Starting with this release, the Relational Population Service (RPS) now supports targeting managed Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance services. This update includes an extension to RPS support, allowing the RPS Datapump application on the server node to extract data for all tables in a format suitable for seamless loading into an Azure SQL database.
Deployment Time Improvements
By compacting DDX files (human-readable forms definition files) upon extraction, significant performance improvements are achieved during the loading process, resulting in faster deployment times.
Unit Test Framework
Within the Jade unit testing framework, enhancements now allow user-written unit tests to indicate whether a method is expected to abort or terminate.
In the UnitTestRunner form, you will now find a Cancel button while tests are running, to halt further test execution after the currently running test has finished. This functionality allows for better control and management of unit tests during their execution.
IDE Enhancements
In this update, the IDE has been improved to support regular expression pattern matching in searches, resulting in an improved Developer experience and increased Developer efficiency. Regular expressions can now be utilized in Global Search and Replace, Find/Replace Search, and Translatable Strings, providing developers with more powerful and flexible search capabilities.
